Every time I pull overripe bananas off the counter and start mashing them, I think of my grandpa.
He made banana bread almost every time we visited. As soon as we walked through the door, that sweet, warm scent would drift from the kitchen—and we knew a loaf was waiting. It was soft, perfectly spiced, and always made with so much love. Sometimes he added walnuts, sometimes chocolate chips, but the heart of the recipe never changed.
Now, whenever I make it, it feels like he’s with me—measuring flour a little loosely, adding “just a touch more salt,” and sneaking a bite before it fully cools. I’m so grateful I get to carry on something that feels like more than a recipe—it’s a little piece of him.
So from my kitchen to yours, here’s Grandpa’s banana bread:

Whether you're baking it for breakfast, dessert, or just because—may it fill your home with the same warmth and comfort it always brought to ours.
Let me know if you try it—I’d love to hear how it turns out! 🧡
From My Kitchen to Yours,
Peyton
